I could not believe Apple Macintosh’s advertisement on its latest laptop release, the MacBook Air. I didn’t think it is possible for such a high technology computer to fit in a manila envelope. But it’s for real, when I got around to a computer store I asked for the item and there it was, superbly amazing. Before I could even mention it, the salesperson volunteered to place it inside a manila envelope and it did. The main point of the MacBook Air is its portability which makes it an ideal gift for someone who is on the go most of the time. It is really lightweight being just a three pounder. I couldn’t’ resist the overwhelming feeling I bought one that instant.
Next to my old iBook, it looks like a glistened sheet of silver paper. It really looks pretty sitting on the table top. But of course there’s more to it than its appearance.
For starters, the peripheral connections are quite limited since there are only three ports to accommodate the micro-DV, USB, and analog audio. There are a lot of missing things though. It doesn’t have an Optical Drive and Firewire or Ethernet.
With it 13.3 inches screen, the images are delivered crisp, clear, and bright but you have to spend an extra for the external hard drive. A reminder though, watching movies on it with lights on is quite glaring since it is reflected on the glaring surface. But that isn’t such a big problem. You just have to turn the lights off. Another of the screens precious qualities is its LED backlit that is environmentally friendly and uses energy efficiently than the common LCD. Not to mention that it has an elegant glow. Plus, the internal speakers really work.
It’s also a pleasure to type on a full size keyboard and a multi touch feature is integrated on the bigger track pad however it takes a bit longer time to get used to the multi touch motion. Still it’s nice to know that it could actually be customized for your convenience.
Not all good things in this world are free. You have to pay a substantial amount to have such a thing of beauty.
I think the latest ad is OK and goes along with the others but maybe lacks the cutting edge of the other ones as the price point has gone up to two thousand bucks. I always try and find a nice juicy one liner in each ad but couldn’t find any in this one.
